Living contemplative song traditions

Songs born
from silence.

We create spaces where living contemplative song traditions can remain fully themselves—preserving not only songs, but the wisdom, relationships, and ways of being they carry.

Why Living Songs

We do not
preserve songs
alone.

Prahlad Singh Tipaniya Ji singing
Song, teaching, presence, and relationship remain connected.

We preserve transmission: wisdom, presence, oral memory, language, lineage, cultural context, and the relationships through which a song remains alive.

The work grows from sustained learning and real encounters—with Prahlad Singh Tipaniya Ji and the Malwa folk tradition; through solo performance; in concerts, classrooms, workshops, retreats, and gatherings in India and abroad; with adults and children; through translation, yoga, meditation, and attentive documentation.

Every tradition determines its own boundaries. Living Songs exists to listen, support, and create the conditions for authentic encounter.

An intimate gathering listening and learning together
Intimate gatherings allow song and conversation to unfold slowly.

Three responsibilities

How the work is held

Preservation is inseparable from public encounter and continued participation. Each responsibility is visible in work already underway.

01

Preserve

Translation, recording, documentation, oral memory, and careful archival work keep source, context, credit, and relationship together.

02

Present

Concerts, workshops, retreats, university collaborations, and conversations invite audiences into the music without flattening its meaning.

03

Participate

Singing, learning, practice, community, and sustained relationships allow traditions to be lived rather than merely observed.

The work so far

One practice, many forms

Each strand begins in direct learning and is presented in the context of the people and traditions that made it possible.
